This evening, the team at Kedistan is devastated. A friend who taught us so much just left us this morning.

A historian of Turkey and of nationalisms, he has left us books and hundreds of articles. He also left us his tenderness for the living, his kindness and modesty in all things.

Etienne Copeaux, the far-away friend, lover of the Drôme landscapes where he lived with Claire, his companion, to whom we send our heartfelt greetings in her grief, Etienne who lost his battle against “his crab”, as he called it.

Our grief is immense, and we also have a thought for his near ones at this time.

All he has left us is a treasure of intelligence. A treasure that much more indispensable in these times when a brown murk darkens the horizon.

See you on his website Susam Sokak — English, read one or another article at random, accompanied by his pen.

We will publish an article about Etienne on Kedistan soon, once our tears will have flowed toward the Bosphorus he gazed upon so often…
