Colleague and friend Nedim Türfent continues sending us his texts and poems so we can share them with you.

However, we will not attempt to transpose into English the French version of his poem initially written in Turkish and illustrated by his co-detainee and comrade, Abdulgafur Anlı. We do wish to share some news about him nonetheless.

* If you are an experienced literary translator and can translate Nedim’s poem from Turkish into English, in solidarity, we will be happy to share it with the public.

The Turkish Court of Cassation having confirmed the verdict on October 9 2019, Nedim Türfent, a journalist from the DIHA agency, is currently purging a sentence of 8 years and 9 months imprisonment. He was sentenced for made up facts of purported terror, following an inequitable trial during which dozens of witnesses declared they had been tortured in order to make statements against him. He spent close to two years in atrocious conditions of isolation. Determined to keep on writing, he continues composing poems during his captivity such as this one in which he expresses the full meaning of dreaming as the attraction to the eventuality that love will come about in this life.

MLSA, IPI and PEN International support Nedim, demanding his immediation liberation and a solidarity campaign is underway. You can also provide support, for example, by signing this petition in French or this one in English.
